The Silky Terrier was developed in Australia. The origins haven't been completely agreed upon, but it is believed that many breeds contributed to creating the Silky, including the Paisley Terrier, the Clydesdale Terrier, the Dandie Dinmont Terrier, the Yorkshire Terrier and the Australian Terrier.  Regardless of what is behind it, the Silky of today is a bright, intelligent and brave terrier of compact size and great heart.

The Silky Terrier is shown in the "Toy" group in Canada. "Toy" being a label given to those breeds who will fit comfortably into a lap.  As companions these little dogs excell, game for a night in front of the t.v. or for a hike in the mountains - whichever suits your fancy!

The Silky quickly 'grows' on people.  They are a great dog for families as they don't take up a lot of room, yet a lot of dog is inside that small package!  Silkys enjoy doing just about anything.... but a favourite activity is playing ball. Silkys seem to love playing fetch and will play it for hours... and hours... and hours.  So, if you're practicing for a softball game - this is definitely the companion for you!
