2002 Silky Terrier Specialty
For Sale Items - Raffle

The Club was founded on September 23rd, 1987 by Dot Seabrook.  It started life as the Silky Toy Terrier Club of Canada (as Silkys were officially known as Silky Toy Terriers in Canada back then) and later became the Silky Terrier Club of Canada and finally ended up as we are today: The Maple Leaf Silky Terrier Club (National) Inc.  - officially C.K.C. recognized as Canada's National Club for the breed.

Although the number of members have never been large (in keeping with the small number of Silkys in the Country), a handful of devoted workers have managed to accomplish quite a lot.......

The Club has written and published a book on the breed: The Silky Terrier In Canada - the First 25 Years. The book features pedigrees, and in many cases pictures, of Champion and/or Obedience Silkys going back to 1965 - when the breed was recognised in Canada. A history of the breed's development in Canada as well as information on many of the early breeders and exhibitors.

We also put out periodical Yearbooks to keep our members up-to-date with pedigrees and pictures of the years new titleholders as well as up-to-date statistics and breed rankings, plus the Top 20 Silkys for that year.
We produce a quarterly news-magazine "Soft As Silk" which averages 16 to 32 pages and is filled with regular columns, feature articles and advertising. SAS is free with membership.

We have organized a National Specialty yearly since 1993 and it rotates between eastern and western Canada. This is usually when the Club does it's big fund-raiser for the year - such as a Silent Auction table - which is manned by Club members and enjoyed by everyone at the show.

We are currently working on putting together new booklets on Training Your Silky as well as Grooming Your Silky.

And of course, we have now published this interent home for the MLSTC  so even more people can learn about the beautiful Silky Terriers that we know and love!
